Puhkupillit, the wind band of the University of Jyväskylä, was founded in 1983. The band has approximately 30 more or less student-hearted musicians in its line-up. During the band’s existence both the players as well as the conductors have changed, but the affection for new Finnish wind band music has remained.

The band’s repertoire consists many different styles of wind band music, such as movie soundtracks, symphonic wind music and for example rock, pop and funk. Traditionally we also play material by our own composers, e.g. Jukka Viitasaari and Janne Ikonen.

The rehearsals take place at the Jyväskylä Normaalikoulu (Yliopistonkatu 1, 40100 Jyväskylä) every Wednesday at 5 pm. Afterwards, the members of the band usually get together at Ylä-Ruth or Sohwi, nearby bars, for a few beers. In addition to the weekly rehearsals, rehearsal camps, recording sessions, and of course, the gigs, are very important to the band.

The band had its 30-year-anniversary concert on 20th April 2013.
